Richard H. Schmidt has been on-air at WCHL for over 30 years. He is the longest serving news anchor in the history of the station. A native of Gallipolis, OH, he started his professional broadcasting career in Salina, KS at KSNV-TV in 1978
He moved to Springfield, MO where he worked at KOMU-TV and then KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, CA before coming back to Kansas in 1983. After 20 years at KAKE-TV in Wichita and six years at WIBW-AM and WIBW-FM he retired from broadcasting and moved to Lawrence where he works part time for an advertising agency. He also serves as a consultant to several radio stations throughout the Midwest.
